MY EXPERIENCE WITH “MULESOFT CERTIFIED HYPERAUTOMATION SPECIALIST EXAM”

Hello Muleys!

I know you must have heard a l

ot about the new Hyperautomation certification by MuleSoft. I have attempted theexam and finally cleared the certification on the second attempt!

Many of them asked me to share my experience. So wanna share it now.

First things first! To all those who think Hyperautomation is all about MuleSoft RPA! You have failed here itself. I did the same mistake and concentrated more on RPA. But RPA is just one part of the exam. The course curriculum is very clear. So please do have a read on what topics the exam is all about.

Please go through https://trailhead.salesforce.com/users/mulesoft-trailhead/trailmixes/certified-hyperautomation-specialist-credential

So as the certification name says: HyperAutomation, is a combo of Salesforce and MuleSoft products together!

So If you just have MuleSoft knowledge alone or Salesforce knowledge alone, then you won’t be able to crack the examination. Its a combination of both Salesforce and MuleSoft

So here are the Topics :

  • MuleSoft Anypoint (MuleSoft folks are familiar)
  • MuleSoft Composer(Salesforce devs are familiar and few Muleys who has access)
  • MuleSoft RPA (A new Automation tool, It’s an entirely different concept. So it’s something both Salesforce and MuleSoft guys have to get familiar with )
  • Salesforce Einstein (Salesforce guys are familiar )
  • Flow Builder ( Salesforce folks are familiar with)
  • Anypoint Manager, Exchange, APIs (MuleSoft folks are familiar with)
  • Orchestrator Basics and Flow Orchestration (Salesforce folks are familiar with this)

So if you look at the curriculum, We have two kinds of Automation tools here, Einstein (salesforce product) and MuleSoft RPA (mulesoft product)

When it comes to Integration, MuleSoft Anypoint (MuleSoft product) and MuleSoft composer (for salesforce devs)

So basically this Hyperautoamtion is a combination. The outcome of this certification is, one should be able to provide “THE BEST SOLUTION” to Automate things! It can be using one product or a combination of products or all products.

So coming to the exam pattern,

We have 60 questions and 120 minutes. To clear the exam, you have to score 70%.

Section 1 : Employ best practices when using hyper-automation

This section is very tricky, you have to be very careful while choosing the products for the solution. You have to understand when to use each MuleSoft product component

For eg :

MuleSoft RPA: Whenever you hear about automating manual repetitive tasks that involve UI (Eg: Excel, browser)

MuleSoft Composer: Integrating SaaS systems using pre-built, IT-approved connectors (Workday, Slack, etc.) One more hint when to use MuleSoft composer is, whenever you have a requirement to Integrate Salesforce with other end systems like NetSuite, Jira, Workday, etc. Please note that one system has to be Salesforce. And Composer is not suggested for complex transformations or batch jobs.

Anypoint Platform :

Whenever there are complex integrations, complex data transformations, and Implementing API-led or event-driven approaches. Creating composable assets etc

This is not enough, You should also know when not to use one of these products!

Eg: MuleSoft RPA is NOT used for ● Accessing a system via the UIs to bypass approved APIs and controls, not to create point-to-point integrations or create APIs, Not for High volume or Bulk data transfer

MuleSoft Composer is NOT for Integrating On-premise. Not for complex data transformations, not for high volume or ETL data transfer

Anypoint Platform is NOT for consuming Data from User Interfaces. Not for simple SaaS systems.Eg: if there’s an integration with Salesforce and NetSuite, go with Composer and not with Anypoint.

Go through this section: https://trailhead.salesforce.com/users/mulesoft-trailhead/trailmixes/certified-hyperautomation-specialist-credential#:~:text=Automation%20and%20Anypoint%20Usage%20Patterns

Section 2: MuleSoft Composer :

Again, please do remember that you have to go through the trail max to learn about Composer. Don’t rush to get certified. Please complete all the sections, and attempt the quiz. These quizzes are really helpful! It helped me to clear my certification. Composer questions are quite easy for me.

There might be questions asked about the components of MuleSoft composer like What kind of trigger components, and what kind of conditional components are present. So please go through them.

Also, don’t forget to learn about the syntaxes. They might ask you questions on how to convert dates to string and string to date. Just like dataweave syntaxes. We have a separate section for MuleSoft composer in Trailmax. Please don’t skip a single section!

They might ask you a scenario-based question like, a company has to integrate between Salesforce-Jira, Salesforce Netsuite, Salesforce Workday, or vice-versa. So in such a case, it’s pretty clear that you need to use Composer. But that’s not enough, you have to know the steps like what needs to be done step by step

Learn about conditional logic in the MuleSoft composer

Go through how to test composer flows.

Finally would like to say that you MUST complete this section in trail max: https://trailhead.salesforce.com/users/mulesoft-trailhead/trailmixes/mulesoft-composer

Section 3: MuleSoft Anypoint Platform

As a core MuleSoft developer, this section was very easy for me. I scored 100% here. But for Salesforce devs, you don’t have to worry about it as well. Because you won’t be asked any dataweave questions or any complex tech questions. You must be aware of the purpose of each feature of anypoint platform. You must know what Anypoint exchange is used for. What is API manager, Runtime manager, API led layers, API Gateway, etc? So questions are very basic. But don’t be overconfident when you answer them. Sometimes we do silly mistakes! So be cautious !!

Build Great APIs and Integrations with MuleSoft

Section 4: MuleSoft RPA

So this is the section in which most of you might have thought most of the questions will be appearing. It is not true but it has equal weightage to others. You must complete the training of MuleSoft RPA! Don’t waste your time putting your hands on it. That doesn’t mean that am not recommending to do. But it takes lots of effort. For now, go through the videos and the hands-on part, you can watch the videos and see how they have been implemented. Later whenever you have time, you can implement it slowly and steadily. You should not rush unlearning something just because you have to complete the certification. So coming to RPA, have a good knowledge of the RPA lifecycle. Have a good knowledge of Designing, Building, and deploying RPA processes. You have to have a strong grip on the RPA manager. For eg: you should know where can you do candidate evaluation, where you can do financial benefits etc. So explore RPA manager. 3-4 questions might appear just on this RPA manager. Also, you should know how to test RPA bots. Go through the Test cycle properly. Again I recommend completing MuleSoft RPA training thoroughly.

Also, there were many questions related to RPA and composer combination. So have a good understanding of RPA Automation with Composer.

Go through: RPA Automation with MuleSoft Composer

Also, complete  MuleSoft RPA Trailmix

Section 5 : Use Salesforce Flow to build hyper-automation workflows

So this section is entirely new for MuleSoft folks. So do go through the entire module from trail max. This is the section where I lost many questions and had to give reattempt. It could be easy for Salesforce folks ( just like how MuleSoft anypoint is easy for MuleSoft folks).

Complete this course FOR SURE before you attempt the exam Build Flows with Flow Builder

Flow Builder

There are a couple of questions on Einstein bots as well.

Go through Learn more about Einstein Automate Trailmix

Set Up Your First Einstein Bot

Section 6: Flow orchestrator

Again, this section might be easy for Salesforce folks but it’s an entirely new topic for MuleSoft guys. I saw at least 10+ questions having the options with Flow orchestration. So don’t get confused. They will ask about the business scenario, (it’s part of section 1) Like what combination of tools helps to provide the best solution. Eg: the combo of flow orch and rap, flow orch+RPA+Composer. Etc

Don’t forget to complete Orchestrator Basics

Flow Orchestration

  • So overall best practices (which combination of products provides the best solution) have more weightage out of 60 questions.
  • Then RPA, Composer, MuleSoft anypoint has equal weightage
  • Questions on the Combination of RPA + Composer
  • Couple of questions with all 3 combinations – RPA+COMPOSER+Anypoint
  • Flow orchestration has good weightage too. Finally, I want to let you know that this exam has equal weightage on both Salesforce and MuleSoft products. That is the reason its a “Salesforce certified Hy MuleSoftperAutomation Certified Specialist . If you fail on the 1st attempt (like me ). Don’t panic, you still have the second one. Look at your score section-wise (it’s very important). It’s not that out of 60 questions if you make 42 correct you will pass. No, it’s about the percentage in each section. So don’t be in a perception that if you score 42 correct, you will pass. It’s not.So please check each section and see where you got less score and concentrate on them. I keep repeating many times in this blog about completing all the modules. Trust me, YES you have to!
